Kolhapur Mission to help 50 startups

Mumbai: The newly launched Kolhapur Startup Mission aims at empowering 50 start-ups under its fold within a year's time.

The Mission was launched by Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home and IT, Satej Patil, in partnership with Kolhapur Incubation Center (KIC) with support of DY Patil Education Group with Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur on January 15.

The mission is expected to invite and empower start-ups in Kolhapur and encourage self-employment among youth.

The Mission is the first-of-its-kind initiative to invite startups and innovators for solving the civic issues in Kolhapur city and to ignite the spark of innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth of Kolhapur.

Selected startups and innovators will be awarded up to Rs 5 lakh for implementing their technology product and services in the district.

To begin with, the Mission will focus on areas like water, waste and air quality. It also includes areas like education, public health, e-governance, agriculture, mobility & transportation.

Commenting on the initiative, the minister said, "Through Kolhapur Startup Mission, we want to invite young startups to our city, facilitate testing of their ideas and bring in innovative solutions to civic problems of Kolhapur through national engagement. I assure we shall provide our full support to the blooming startups in Kolhapur and I am confident this initiative will make Kolhapur one of the top startup destinations of India."

According to the renowned scientist RA Mashelkar, "I am sure Kolhapur shall become a top destination for Indian innovators."

"We are enthusiastic to work with new startups and innovators on solutions around Water, Sanitation, Waste Management and Public Transport segment among others. We extend our full support to startups to implement their solutions in Kolhapur city & scale up nation-wide, " said Kadambari Balkawade, Municipal Commissioner of Kolhapur. More than just access to capital, startups need a relevant network, educational intervention, unconditional knowledge support and mentorship.

"We shall provide every support required for their growth," Kolhapur (South) MLA, Ruturaj Patil said.

KSM shall be organising several knowledge sessions for startups, students and innovators over the next few weeks to hone the entrepreneurial skills of the founders.
